Setting Up Mobile App Push Notifications - For Managers

HydroApps gives administrators full control over which push notifications staff can receive through the mobile app. Notification settings can be managed at both the user role level and the individual user level, helping organizations deliver the right operational alerts to the right staff members.

How Mobile Push Notifications Work

For a user to receive push notifications in the HydroApps mobile app:

  1. Notifications must be enabled by an administrator in the HydroApps web platform

  2. The user must also enable notifications within the mobile app on their device

Both steps are required for notifications to be delivered successfully.

Enabling Notifications Through User Role Templates

The easiest way to manage notifications for groups of employees is through User Role Templates.

To configure notifications by role:

  1. Go to User Role Templates

  2. Select the role you want to edit

  3. Click Edit Role Template

  4. Open the Email Alerts tab

Within the Email Alerts settings, you’ll see a new column labeled:

  • Send App Enabled

This controls whether that notification type can be delivered through the HydroApps mobile app.

Choosing Which Notifications Staff Receive

Administrators can choose which push notifications are available for each user role.

Examples include:

  • Shift reminders

  • Published schedules

  • Shift assignments

  • Shift unassignments

  • Pool test alerts

  • Checklist issues

  • Incident reports

  • Pool closure notifications

  • Maintenance tickets

  • Urgent operational alerts

If a notification is not enabled in the role template:

  • Staff will not receive that push notification

  • Even if they attempt to enable it inside the mobile app

This allows organizations to carefully control operational communication and reduce unnecessary alerts.

Applying Notification Settings to Staff

After configuring notification permissions:

  1. Click Assign All Staff Members

  2. HydroApps will apply those settings to all users assigned to that role

This makes it easy to update notification access across large teams.

Managing Notifications for Individual Users

Notifications can also be customized on a user-by-user basis.

To edit notifications for an individual user:

  1. Open the user profile

  2. Select Edit User

  3. Navigate to the Email Alerts section

From there, administrators can enable or disable app notifications for specific staff members.

This is especially useful for:

  • Facility managers

  • Supervisors

  • Leadership staff

  • Specialized operational roles

For example, managers may need notifications for:

  • Urgent checklist issues

  • Incident reports

  • Pool closure forms

  • Maintenance submissions

Managing Notifications Inside the Mobile App

Once notifications are enabled by an administrator, users can control which alerts appear on their device.

To manage app notifications:

  1. Open the HydroApps mobile app

  2. Tap the Gear Icon in the top right corner

  3. Select Notifications

Users can then:

  • Turn all notifications on or off

  • Enable or disable specific notification categories

  • Customize alerts for their device

Viewing Notifications in the Mobile App

Notifications can be accessed by tapping the Notifications Icon at the bottom of the app.

From there, users can:

  • Review operational alerts

  • Open related issues directly from the notification

  • Add notes or updates

  • Stay informed about facility activity in real time

Examples of notifications may include:

  • Urgent facility issues

  • Pool chemistry alerts

  • Checklist problems

  • Schedule updates

  • Incident reports

  • Maintenance requests
